This would also fall in the long-shot category. However, the White Sox are searching for a solution at the designated hitter position after declining Edwin Encarnacion’s team option. Eric Thames would fall into the category of DH as he has some power. In 2017, he hit 31 home runs. He will also be dirt cheap which would be nice. If the White Sox don’t use him at DH he could be used as a weapon off the bench.

Unfortunately, that is where the positives end for Thames. There is a reason he is a career journeyman. He left the MLB in 2012 and had stints across the minor leagues and the KBO in Korea before finding his way back to the show.

The White Sox have Andrew Vaughn waiting in the wings to assume the role of DH. The White Sox used a first-round pick on Vaughn and are anxious to see what he can do.  Micheal Brantley is also an attractive free agent to fill the role until Vaughn is called up. Bringing back James McCann would also provide a solution at DH.

Simply put there are a plethora of viable options that are better than Thames.  The chances of him playing in a White Sox uniform next season are slim to none.
