Chicago White Sox: Jose Abreu gets the highest grade
Jose Abreu is going to get the highest grade of any Chicago White Sox player.
Jose Abreu was an amazing player for his entire career so far. He is counted on yearly to produce big numbers for the Chicago White Sox and he always delivers. In 2020, things were no different. In fact, he was better than he had ever been before. It was only a 60 game season because of COVID-19 but there is no doubt that Abreu’s year was one to remember. His future with the White Sox was in doubt as his contract was almost up but they worked it out and both sides should be happy.
Bringing Abreu back was good for multiple reasons. He has become a very good defensive first baseman after that was in question early in his career. He also took his offensive game to the next level, which is hard to believe. His slash line was .317/.370/.678 with an OPS of .987. He hit 19 home runs and led Major League Baseball with 60 RBIs in 60 games. He also led the American League in hits, slugging percentage, and total bases.
It was a tremendous season for Jose, clearly proven by his 2020 statistics. All of that landed him the honor MVP in the American League. It was so satisfying to see Abreu win this award because he has been so loyal to this franchise. He was also the American League’s Silver Slugger for first base. A season like that is certainly one to remember because it isn’t every year that one of the players on your team is the best player in the league.
Winning the MVP is huge for the Abreu and the White Sox franchise. They went into the season as one of the league’s younger teams with a bright future. There were mixed expectations for their upcoming season and anyone who believed in them was proven right. A lot of the White Sox triumphs were because of the play of Jose Abreu.
Final Grade: A+
Jose Abreu gets an A+. Not only was he the best player on the White Sox in 2020, but he was also the best player in the American League and you can argue all of Major League Baseball. His accomplishments this season are something to be proud of. Winning an MVP is no small feat and Abreu is now in all-time great White Sox territory.
2021 outlook:
Jose is going to be back and better than ever in 2021. He might not come back as the best player in the American League again but he also might. Regardless, he is going to be one of the key pieces to this Chicago White Sox team. There are World Series expectations now and Abreu needs to be right in the middle of it again. Individual awards are awesome but now it is time to start seeing the team advance in the playoffs.
