Zack Godley might be worth taking a risk on for the Chicago White Sox in 2021.

The Chicago White Sox might be willing to take a risk on a depth pitcher in 2021 if they can’t land anyone else. Zack Godley is currently someone who is a free agent from the Boston Red Sox and will most likely not be brought back. He is a good player that had a pretty tough year in a pretty tough situation in 2020. The Red Sox didn’t have any depth at pitching at all and they didn’t have any of their top guys either.

Godley spent most of his career with the Arizona Diamondbacks where he was a pretty good pitcher. In 2019, he was traded from Arizona to the Toronto Blue Jays. In the 2019-20 offseason, he signed with the Detroit Tigers but was released before ever playing a game with them (after COVID-19 shut the season down). He signed with the Boston Red Sox right before the new season began.

As mentioned before, he didn’t have a good year. His numbers were bad and he had a negative WAR. Those numbers, however, don’t match up with his career numbers. He has been a pretty good pitcher throughout his career and at 30 years old, there is no reason to think he is anywhere close to done.

It wasn’t easy to pitch for the Boston Red Sox in 2020 because most of their pitchers weren’t in a position to succeed but the White Sox will be a much better team. None of these guys have been in any rumors or anything like that, it would just make sense for the White Sox to go for players like this to help improve their 2021 depth.
