The Chicago White Sox pitchers and catchers have been in Spring Training for a few days now. We have heard a lot about Ethan Katz and how he plans on positively impacting this team. We have also heard a lot of different names over the offseason as they are going to try and compliment one of the best offenses in all of Major League Baseball. It has been fun to see so far and there are some things to be excited about as we approach the exhibition season.

Chicago White Sox pitching is going to be fun to watch during the 2021 season.

Of course, the biggest topic concerning White Sox pitching is the play of Michael Kopech. It sounds like his time away from the White Sox has helped him get to where he is at right now. We all know how talented he is but it is important that he is there healthy. He has been throwing in the bullpen during Spring Training so far and he even told the media that he is excited to be back with his teammates.

Carlos Rodon gave some updates as well after signing with them again this offseason. He called it a “no brainer” to come back to the White Sox when the opportunity presented itself. He revealed that they agreed he was coming back as a starter when they came to a deal. That is really interesting because, at this point, it doesn’t feel like a lock that he should be the fourth or fifth stater at all.

We all want to see Roson succeed but we do have to hope that they go with whoever gives them the best chance to win. If Dylan Cease, Garrett Crochet, Reynaldo Lopez, or Michael Kopech prove they deserve the spot, they should have the spot. It sounds like all of those guys are coming along nicely so far in Spring Training.

The next notable thing to come out is Lucas Giolito. We know how good of a pitcher is but it seems like he is taking his leadership to the next level. He comments on every pitcher and what they look like and what they are going to bring this year. Of course, naturally, his comments about Michael Kopech and his pitching are the most interesting thing he has spoken about. Giolito is going to be a great ace on a great staff this year.

The White Sox don’t only have starters here in Spring Training. The Bullpen is expected to be really good this year. One of the most important pieces is Aaron Bummer. He is probably going to be the setup man for new closer Liam Hendriks. Ethan Katz had some high praise for Bummer’s sinker when he called it “the most impressive thing he has ever seen”. It is going to be awesome seeing Bummer come in with a lead late in ballgames this summer.

There is a lot happening in a short amount of time. The position players aren’t far behind and then the games will begin soon. Before you know it, it will be Opening Day. It is good that the pitching is coming along this well this early. We know this team is going to score runs in bunches so the pitching needs to keep up. Hopefully, all of these positive vibes continue.
