3. The players who play right-field for the White Sox in 2021 need to play it well.
The Chicago White Sox have needed help in rightfield for a few years now. It is really one of the only positions that weren’t taken up by a young prospect since the rebuild began. Last year, they tried Nomar Mazara after a trade with the Texas Rangers but that didn’t work out well. They let him go after the experiment was over in 2020 and decided to try again. That led them to sign an old friend in free-agency.
Adam Eaton was a good player for the Chicago White Sox in the early 2010s. The Washington Nationals thought so highly of Eaton that they sent the White Sox Lucas Giolito, Dane Dunning, and Reynaldo Lopez for him. We all know how that trade has worked out well for both teams because the White Sox received some quality pitching and the Nationals won the World Series with Eaton in 2019.
2020 was tough for him, however, so the Nationals let him walk. The White Sox needed help in right-field so they are giving him a chance to redeem himself in 2021. He might not be the player that he was the last time he put on a White Sox jersey but he also probably isn’t as bad as he was last year. This could work out to be an okay signing for Rick Hahn and the Sox.
If things don’t work out with Eaton, or even if they do, Adam Engel is also really good. His bat is starting to come alive in addition to his stout defense to so these two Adams could form a really nice duo.
Hopefully, it all works out because this team is really good. You would hate for any of these minor issues to be what keeps them from taking it to the next level. The Chicago White Sox are going to challenge for the American League this year and despite some concerns, will be really fun to watch play baseball.
