Last week, we watched the Chicago White Sox compete against one of their division rivals in spring training. It was fun to see them compete against the Kansas City Royals on Thursday. It was a back and forth game that had a little bit of everything. Besides it being a tremendous spring training uniform game (both sides looked magnificent), it was incredibly entertaining. These two teams have a long-lasting rivalry and things might be pretty exciting in 2021.

The Chicago White Sox should be wary of the 2021 Kansas City Royals.

For the most part, people don’t see the Royals as much of a threat this year. Of course, they have some really nice upcoming players that they should be excited about but most don’t see them competing for the playoffs at all this year.

It is fair to think that the division is a two-horse race between the White Sox and the Minnesota Twins. The Cleveland Indians are right behind them but they have started to sell off their players. The Detroit Tigers continue to pile up prospects as well but they are so far away from competing at the MLB level. They might be a team to be worried about in the long term but not now.

That leaves the Royals. It is hard to see them being as good as the White Sox or Twins but they aren’t going to be a slouch. The White Sox went 9-1 against them in 2020 which says a lot about how good the White Sox were but how bad the Royals were. They shouldn’t expect to beat them at a .900 clip or anywhere close. This is baseball and the full season norm is coming back.

The Royals had some sneaky good moves this offseason. They are going to have decent pitching and some good offense for a lot of the year. It is a top-heavy bunch but they have enough to make things hard on their opponents. Beating them won’t be as easy as it was in 2020 at all.

They will more than likely end up being one of those middle-of-the-pack teams that beat up on the bottom teams and make it hard on top teams. Hopefully, the White Sox are able to take care of their business against them and play it the right way. If they don’t take them seriously, they will lose and it won’t be pretty.
