Chicago White Sox Rumors: Jake Lamb is signed
The Chicago White Sox needs some extra help now that Eloy Jimenez is going to be out for a while. Well, according to FanSided’s own Robert Murray, the White Sox are signing Jake Lamb. He is usually an infielder so it isn’t like he is going to be the direct replacement for Jimenez but there are many ways they can go about constructing the lineup with him in it. This is an interesting signing for a lot of reasons but one that might be able to help.
The Chicago White Sox are bringing in Jake Lamb to try and add more depth.
Jake Lamb spent most of Spring Training with the Atlanta Braves. He was let go by them in favor of keeping Pablo Sandavol as their backup infielder (third baseman). Now, Lamb is going to come to Chicago and be a part of a similar type of team (if he sticks). Yoan Moncada is a Gold Glove-caliber third baseman so it is hard to see him moving away from the hot corner any time soon but Lamb can provide stability there.
He spent parts of his first seven years with the Arizona Diamondbacks. He was a pretty good player for them during that time, including an All-Star appearance in 2017. He probably won’t be quite on that level but you can go into it knowing that he has that type of talent inside of him.
He didn’t start 2020 well with Arizona at all. He was traded to the Oakland Athletics in 2020 where he was much better on a way more talented team. If the White Sox can get a slightly better version of his A’s self, they will be getting a valuable player.
With Danny Mendick as a Gold Glove-caliber (he was literally nominated in 2020) backup second baseman, the depth for the infield is really nice. There is a good backup for pretty much every position at this point with Lamb in the mix.
The White Sox are clearly a team that wants to win in 2020. When Jimenez and Engel are down, there is plenty there for them to get through. People on the outside might not see it because they don’t know the depth names as well but this team can be really good if everyone carries their own weight. If they all come together fully healthy in September, there is no telling what this team can do.
