The Chicago White Sox and New York Yankees are both coming out of spring training with high expectations. If either of them won the American League pennant or potentially even the World Series later this year, not a single person would be surprised. They could, however, help each other out and make a big trade right before the season starts. There are no rumors or anything like that but each team has something that the other might want right now. These are three trades for them to consider:

The Chicago White Sox needs some help in left field for right now.

If the New York Yankees were willing to send Mike Tauchman to the Chicago White Sox for a borderline roster piece and depth prospect, the White Sox should consider it. They are very deep in their outfield right now so they might be willing to move somebody in order to get something small in return. The White Sox need someone good to play left field (thanks to the Eloy Jimenez injury) and they have a few things that the Yankees might be able to use to their advantage.

Reynaldo Lopez clearly needs a change of scenery. He might be able to go to New York and turn things around because it isn’t working here in Chicago. Every other young pitcher on the rise has passed him up on the depth chart and that led to him being optioned. He lost the job as the fifth starter to Carlos Rodon during spring training so it isn’t looking good for him there.

The Yankees, however, aren’t as deep as the White Sox in their starting rotation. Gerrit Cole is awesome but after him comes to a bunch of question marks. It would be very interesting to see what Reynaldo Lopez might be able to do if he goes and gets some innings there. Tyler Johnson would play in their minor league system and get a chance in spring training 2022.

The Chicago White Sox should give up a haul for Clint Frazier of the New York Yankees.

The New York Yankees haven’t been the best at getting the most out of Clint Frazier. It is mostly because of the fact that they are so deep in the outfield but 2021 might finally be the year that he truly breaks out and becomes a household name. If the Yankees aren’t going to use him right, however, the Chicago White Sox should be willing to give up a fair amount for him.

Jonathan Stiever is the best prospect going back in this trade. He currently sits as the number eight prospect in the organization. There is a lot of talent to be unlocked there that the Yankees might have more room to do. It is hard to ever see him getting to the level of a Michael Kopech, Garrett Crochet, or Jared Kelley so they might be better off trading him.

Micker Adolfo and Jake Burger were both once highly regarded White Sox prospects that have been passed up for a variety of reasons. Injury has had a bit to do with it but the Yankees might be able to use them better than the White Sox can right now. Losing someone like Leury Garcia would be rough as he is a great depth piece but adding Frazier would help them get over the Jimenez injury for a while.

The Chicago White Sox could use some help at the designated hitter position.

If the Chicago White Sox wanted to promise a player to be named later to the New York Yankees for Jay Bruce, it might be an okay idea. Fans probably wouldn’t like it but he is clearly with New York for a reason. He is a 33-year-old veteran that might be able to be the DH for the White Sox right now if they wanted. Andrew Vaughn was going to have that role but now he is going to play left in Eloy Jimenez’s absence.

Bruce doesn’t hit for a high batting average but he does a lot of other things well at the plate. He can hit some home runs and drive in a few if put in a position to succeed. Earlier in his career, he was an MVP-level guy who could impact the game at a high level so you know there was lots of talent there at one point. The White Sox wouldn’t be getting anything close to that player but he could help them in the short term.

The Yankees kind of made him a last-minute add so it wouldn’t cost much. The White Sox throwing them an unnamed player later in the season would be worth taking this risk. Chances are that it wouldn’t even be a prospect that most people have heard of.

None of these trades are a must but they would all be wild and could help each team in different ways. The White Sox could use some outfield or DH help and the Yankees could use some arms to develop a little better. It would be really cool to see these two meet in the playoffs too so let the games begin.
