The Chicago White Sox know that they have one of the best catchers in all of baseball. Yasmani Grandal is off to a really good start this season. He is very good behind the plate and his offense has been as good as any catcher in the game for a while as well. The White Sox love having him and it showed during Monday night’s win over the Seattle Mariners. He was a huge part of getting the win for the White Sox.

The Chicago White Sox and Yasmani Grandal had big nights on Monday.

In the game, his 150th career home run was a huge part in getting them the win. It was a solo shot in the top of the second inning to give the White Sox a 1-0 lead. It served as the game-winning run as the White Sox pulled out a 6-0 shutout victory. Grandal’s big blast got them started in a busy offensive game.

The home run probably helped Carlos Rodon get his season started as well. There was a lot of pressure for him to perform and the bottom of the first inning was the only frame he didn’t pitch with a lead. Grandal was also behind the plate doing a very good job catching him which made his night even more special.

That home run was just the beginning of a big night for him at the plate as well. He had a total of two hits, three RBIs, and two runs scored in the contest. He also walked one time so it was clear that he was seeing the ball well in this game. If he can continue having offensive output like this game during the season, the White Sox lineup will be even better than we thought.

Being a catcher that reaches 150 home runs is something special. Most catchers aren’t even that good at hitting but the same can’t be said for Grandal. 89 of his home runs came with the Los Angeles Dodgers, 28 came with the Milwaukee Brewers, 24 came with the San Diego Padres, and nine have come with the White Sox.

He only has this young season and last year’s short season on his White Sox tenure so you can expect those numbers to grow even more. This player is extremely important and has become even more needed thanks to the departure of James McCann. They made the right decision by bringing him in and he is proving it on nights like Monday. Hopefully, he continues to help out in all areas of the game for a catcher.
