The Chicago White Sox has something special in Michael Kopech. They are currently using him as a superweapon in the bullpen but they did give him one start already this past weekend. Weather issues and a 10 day IL stint for Lance Lynn allowed Kopech to get the start in the second half of a doubleheader against the Boston Red Sox last weekend. Well, some of those same issues are still there so Kopech should get another start.

The Chicago White Sox should give Michael Kopech a start over the weekend.

The Texas Rangers are coming into town for three. The White Sox are returning home after playing .500 baseball to begin the season. They have only lost one series, however, and that was to the Los Angeles Angels in the opening series. It is the perfect time to get Kopech his second start of the season.

We know that Dylan Cease is probably going to face Dane Dunning tonight. We already know that Texas is throwing Kyle Gibson on Saturday and Kohei Arihara on Sunday. Dallas Keuechel split the doubleheader with Kopech last Sunday so you can expect to see him over the weekend as well.

It would just make so much more sense to see Kopech start than any of the other options. He gives the team the best chance to win in place of Lynn. When Lynn comes back, you put Kopech back in the bullpen until he is ready to become a full-time starter. This kid is the most talented pitcher in the organization so it would be nice to see them use that luxury to their advantage.

Kopech has gotten off to a really nice start. It is mostly bullpen work and the one start but he is on the fast track to being one of this team’s top starters. He has a 1.69 ERA, 0.656 WHIP, and 17 strikeouts in 10.2 innings pitched. It all accumulates to a 0.4 WAR on the season.

One extra thing that is noticeable about Kopech is the fact that he is electric. His arm has everything a Major League arm needs but it is the type of arm that makes people want to watch. His fastball can hit 100 when he wants it to but he consistently keeps it in the high 90s.

It also moves across the plate at that speed which is incredible to see. When his breaking stuff is on point, he is virtually unhittable. If the White Sox announces that he is the starter for one of these two games, be excited because then the game becomes even more must-see than it already is when you are a fan.
