The Chicago White Sox went into the doubleheader on Thursday angry. They had an ugly finish to their prior game against the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday. Normally, in baseball, you are able to get back at it the next day but a rain issue kept that from being the case on Wednesday. That forced the straight doubleheader that they played on Thursday. The White Sox knew that they needed to play well in this one before the Cleveland Indians came to town over the weekend.

The Chicago White Sox were able to sweep the doubleheader on Thursday.

The first game was the pitching matchup that was supposed to take place on Wednesday. Casey Mize of the Detroit Tigers and Carlos Rodon of the Chicago White Sox each had really nice games. The White Sox were able to put together enough runs at the end to get the victory but it wasn’t easy. In fact, when Detroit was up 1-0 late in the seven-inning doubleheader, things weren’t looking great.

They clawed back and won the game which was great. Carlos Rodon has truly been amazing to start the season. It is clear that he is getting beyond just having a “hot start”. He has a lot of talent that he seems to finally be tapping into. Hopefully, he can keep it going.

Game two had a little bit of a rain delay as well. They started it about an hour later than originally scheduled. This one, however, was a complete blowout. Dylan Cease had the best start of his career (a complete-game shutout) while the offense absolutely exploded. They put together 11 runs in an absolute beat down of the Tigers to get the sweep.

The two victories put them up to 14-10. They are now 8-2 in their last ten games. Despite some issues to start the season, this team is really starting to come along. It was much needed with the Cleveland Indians coming to town who are a much better team than the Tigers. The White Sox already beat the Indians a few times so far this season so they know they can do it.

The issue with game number one is the fact that Shane Bieber is getting the start. He is truly one of the best pitchers in the world and a candidate to win the AL Cy Young. He is going to go against Dallas Keuchel for the White Sox. We know that Lance Lynn and Lucas Giolito will get games two and three but we don’t know who Cleveland is pitching yet. It should be a really fun series.
