Luis González

Luis Gonzalez is going to get a big opportunity to stay with the Chicago White Sox.

A fellow Luis could also be in line for a promotion and fill in for the injured Luis. Luis González is expected to get called up from the alternate training site in Schaumburg and throw his hat in the mix of names of possible center fielders.

González was ranked as the number nine prospect in the White Sox organization by Baseball America. He appeared in three games for the White Sox last season. He entered one game as a defensive replacement in center field and one as a defensive replacement in left field. He also had one opportunity as a pinch hitter but went 0-1. However, he was hit by a pitch in his plate appearance against Detroit on 8/18 and came around to score a run.

The White Sox like González’s speed and offensive potential. They have good reasons why. In 2019 he led Class AA Birmingham in runs (63) and triples (four). He also ranked second in hits (117), home runs (nine), and RBIs (59). If that isn’t enough he also tied for second in doubles (18) and stolen bases (17).

Luis Robert's injury sure was a big scare. light. Related Story

He did have a poor showing in Spring Training with only a .154 batting average. He will now get another opportunity at the big leagues and this is his chance to make the most of it. Just look at what Yermin Mercedes did with his first real opportunity. If Gonzalez gets a chance to start in center field he needs to take it and run with it. It is very likely we will see a lot of him as a pinch-runner and as a defensive sub later in games.
