White Sox: A huge opportunity looms with Orioles in town

The Chicago White Sox just took a series from the St. Louis Cardinals two games to one. The Cleveland Indians are on their tail in the division so it would be nice to see the White Sox earn some breathing room going into June. A nice chance to do that is looming as the Baltimore Orioles are in town for four games. This is a big opportunity for the White Sox to take care of business and feel good about their game.
The Chicago White Sox would love to take an important series from the Baltimore Orioles.
The Baltimore Orioles are one of the worst teams in Major League Baseball. They are in last place of the very good AL East and are the only team in the division with a negative run differential (-56). They are 1-9 in their last ten and that includes a nine-game losing streak.
Every team in the MLB has talent because it is the best baseball league in the world but the White Sox should be able to win if they play hard. If they assume they are going to win they will have no chance but if they play to their potential, it shouldn’t even be close.
Things will kick off tonight in a pitching matchup that involves Dylan Cease and Bruce Zimmermann. Zimmerman is a lefty that has a 5.59 ERA this season. The White Sox has done wonders with lefties since the beginning of 2020. Hopefully, they can tag Zimmerman enough to get this series off to a really good start.
In the second game on Friday, Dallas Keuchel is going to face Matt Harvey. Keuchel has had an up and down year to start the season but he is 3-1. The White Sox generally has success when he is on the mound. Harvey made it onto an MLB team this season and deserves credit for that but his 6.31 ERA is not great and neither is his 3-5 record. This is a matchup that should favor the White Sox.
One of the Orioles pitchers that have had success this season is John Means and he will be on the mound on Saturday. He has a whopping 0.75 WHIP and 1.79 ERA which is impressive. Those sparkling numbers have him at 4-0 on the season in 10 starts. As mentioned before, the White Sox usually have success against left-handed pitchers but this is one of the better lefties they will face. He will go up against Lance Lynn who has just been money so far this season.
Another lefty will take the mound for Baltimore on Sunday when Keegan Akin is pitching. He hasn’t had the same success as he sits with a 6.10 ERA in four games played so far this season. Lucas Giolito will pitch opposite him as he looks for another dominant start. If Giolito is as good as he is capable of being, there are few better.

There are no guarantees in baseball and anybody can beat anybody. However, when you compare the two rosters it is clear that the White Sox have a clear roster advantage. This is a chance to win more games than they lose in a series and expand their lead in the division.
