The Chicago White Sox are getting ready to play a series against the Detroit Tigers. On Thursday afternoon, the White Sox announced a few roster moves that have different reactions. The first is that Andrew Vaughn is hitting the Injured list. In his place, they are calling Gavin Sheets from AAA Charlotte. It is not great to lose Vaughn for any amount of time but it is going to be fun seeing Gavin Sheets make it up to Major League Baseball.

The Chicago White Sox have made some interesting transactions on Thursday.

Gavin Sheets is having a very good year so far in AAA. He has a slash of .319/.360/.500 with four home runs and 20 RBIs. He can play in the outfield and at first base depending on team needs. It will be interesting to see if the White Sox allows him to play at any point while he is up. He is not in the starting lineup for Thursday’s game.

Vaughn is hitting the injured list because of MLB’s existing COVID-19 protocols. According to Rick Hahn, he is currently asymptomatic and they hope that the stint on the list doesn’t last very long. There are no other players on the roster that are impacted by this.

Vaughn was the White Sox top prospect going into the year. His status was impacted by the injury to Eloy Jimenez. Instead of being the DH and part-time first baseman, he is being used as Eloy’s replacement in left field. So far, he has done a very good job with this assignment. He is also coming along as a hitter which is his major strength as a baseball player. Hopefully, they are able to get him back as soon as possible.

It is hard to see Sheets ever making as big of an impact as the prospects who came before him based on the current roster and what it projects to look like but it will be nice to see what they have in him. No matter what happens, it will be nice to see him get this opportunity.
