The Chicago White Sox went into this game with the Toronto Blue Jays on a hot streak. They took three out of four from the Detroit Tigers over the weekend and played well while doing it. They knew that Toronto will be a much more difficult opponent as they are a much better team.

Their starting lineup is very good so you know the White Sox will need their best from their pitchers in this series as a whole. Game one saw the Sox win a nail-biter in the most exciting way. Getting a win in a close game like that against a good team makes it a night we won’t soon forget. If this season ends the way we want it to, we will point back to games like this.

The Chicago White Sox won game one against the Toronto Blue Jays.

As mentioned before, the White Sox need amazing pitching in order to beat a lineup like the Blue Jays. Carlos Rodon got them off to a brilliant start. As a left-handed pitcher, he faced a team that started nine righties in their lineup. Not only was it a major mismatch, but they are also just really good hitters. He dealt with some high-pressure situations throughout his start because of baserunners but he only gave up one run in five innings.

Rodon deserves so much credit for battling through this very difficult start and doing his job. Jose Ruiz, Evan Marshall, Garrett Crochet, and Liam Hendriks shut the door the rest of the way while the offense got the game tied and eventually opened the flood gates.

Andrew Vaughn got the game tied at one with a huge home run. It was also the last pitch that Robbie Ray threw after a dominant start. He dominated the White Sox for the most part as he had 13 strikeouts in a very good start. He had his breaking stuff going well and the White Sox couldn’t handle it until Vaughn got the best of him.

Once the White Sox got the game tied, they started to tee off against the bullpen of the Blue Jays. They put together five more runs one inning after Vaughn worked his magic to tie the game. That 6-1 score ended up being the final. On paper, it looks like the White Sox handled their business with ease but the Blue Jays made it very difficult and deserve respect.

If every game in this series is like that, it is going to be so much fun. The Blue Jays are a good young team just like the White Sox. Chicago’s pitching is way better but Toronto will get there someday. These two teams could be playoff opponents more than once over the next half-decade or more if all goes according to plan. Lance Lynn and the White Sox will have a lot to handle later tonight in game number two.
