For a few weeks there, the Chicago White Sox were begging for a little bit more offense via the home run ball. In this series against the Minnesota Twins, they started to get it again and it led to a big-time series sweep. One player you might not expect to get a long ball from is Zack Collins but he did have one blast. It came in the final game of the series and gave the White Sox the lead for good. It was fantastic to see him have another big day at the plate.

It was great to see Zack Collins contribute to another Chicago White Sox win.

He is there to produce some offense but his game behind the plate is what really keeps him in the Major Leagues. He is becoming a really good catcher when it comes to the defensive side of things. He almost exclusively the personal catcher for Carlos Rodon and Lucas Giolito these days which is nice in terms of his playing time. When he is the catcher, it is nice when the White Sox have Yasmani Grandal either DH or play first base.

Collins came into this game with five career home runs. That isn’t a large total but he added to it with that big home run mentioned before. His 6th career home run came in a clutch moment but it also has a very interesting fact tied to it. The home run was the first that Collins ever hit at Guaranteed Rate Field. The first five were all hit on the road.

It might not sound like too big of a deal but Collins clearly knew about it. He said it before Jason Benetti even had a chance to ask him about it in the postgame interview. There is no explaining stuff like this but did appear to be happy about finally hitting one at home. You always want to be able to perform at home when you are an athlete so this was a good day for him.

They don’t need Collins to be a game-breaking home run hitter like Grandal or anything like that but a little bit of offensive help every now and again would be nice. The fact that he has his first at home under his belt might really help him gain some confidence. This lineup looks like it might be turning the corner offensively a little bit and Collins hitting the ball well might really help them take that next step, especially when they are healthy.
