Ahead of tonight’s game between the Chicago White Sox and Chicago Cubs, we received some very good news. After a few months without their star catcher, the White Sox are going to have Yasmani Grandal back in the mix. He has been out for a while with an injury but slowly working his way back after surgery and rehab. He had a stint in the Minors for rehab and was dominant.

Inserting a bat like that into the middle of this White Sox order will be lethal. They have yet to have their roster as designed this season. Eloy Jimenez and Luis Robert were still both weeks away the last time Grandal suited up for the White Sox. They are both back and the team will pretty much be at full strength. Adam Engel is out but Brian Goodwin is more than a serviceable replacement for him.

Grandal was just starting to heat up when he got hurt. His batting average isn’t anything to bat an eye over but that isn’t what’s really important anymore. His on-base percentage of .388 and slugging percentage of .436 for an OPS of .824 are incredible. He gets on base and hits for an incredible amount of power. He has 14 home runs, 38 RBIs, and 42 runs scored with a WAR of 1.9 in 63 games played this season.

We learned something while Grandal was gone. For one, they learned how important he is to their organization right now. They also learned a little bit about their backup position. Seby Zavala was called up to replace him and he did a better job than Zack Collins in that span. There is no reason that Zavala shouldn’t stick around now.

Adding Yasmani Grandal to the Chicago White Sox right now is going to be so great.

The White Sox took note of that fact as well as Collins was the one sent down to AAA Charlotte to make room for him. He will have a little bit of time down there to get back on track with his bat. He will more than likely be one of the September call-ups when the roster expands from 26 to 28.

Adding Grandal back to this group is going to be great. He impacts the lineup in a way that few catchers in the world can. The White Sox went 74-55 without the lineup exactly the way we wanted. Now, they have a chance to do something special As long as they stay healthy, the pieces are there. It is time to go for a deep playoff run.
