Before Tuesday night’s 4-2 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Chicago White Sox made some big announcements. There is still probably one more to come but September is here so some strategy will start to come into play with these roster transactions. Hopefully, Rick Hahn and Tony La Russa do everything necessary to make sure they are ready for the playoffs. So far, they look like they are on a good track.

There has been some roster news that dropped over the last 24 hours. Some people might have wanted to see studs like Gavin Sheets or Jake Burger get the call, but that doesn’t seem likely right now. The White Sox are trying to make sure that they have everything that they need for the postseason. That includes giving some key players some rest as the season winds down.

Speaking of rest, Tim Anderson is getting it. One of the team MVPs deserves it more than anybody. He is sitting all week against the Pittsburgh Pirates to rest his legs up. He will be back by the start of the weekend series against the Kansas City Royals. They need him leading off in the playoffs and they will make sure he is feeling fresh.

The biggest news of the day was the transaction involving Lance Lynn. The White Sox placed him in the 10-day IL with right knee inflammation. They called up Danny Mendick to take his spot. Lance revealed that his knee is what was bothering him when he was ejected from throwing his belt. The reason he threw it was because he wanted to go get it taken care of.

According to Tony LA Russa, this should only cost him one start. They are going to use Reynaldo Lopez in that spot. Lopez might not be Michael Kopech or Garrett Crochet but he has certainly earned this opportunity.

Tony La Russa also confirmed that Billy Hamilton will be activated later today. That is going to be a big boost because they could use some extra speed. He certainly won’t start as much but he will be a great defensive replacement along with a great pinch runner in key situations. It will be exciting to have Billy back. Adam Engel is also slated to begin his rehab assignment when the White Sox leave for the road trip.

The Chicago White Sox certainly put a lot of news out there on Tuesday afternoon.

This was a lot of news to take in on one Tuesday afternoon but that is what happens when the calendar flips to September in Major League Baseball. The White Sox will have Billy Hamilton and Danny Mendick up with Lance Lynn down so that leaves one roster spot left. You’d have to imagine that Zack Collins takes that spot but you never know.

When Lynn is healthy, that is where the decision of who goes down will be interesting. You can probably bet on it being Mendick but anything could happen. This is a deep organization right now and they have everything they need. It is up to them to go get it.
