Ahead of their 7-2 loss to the Kansas City Royals, the Chicago White Sox announced some news regarding Lucas Giolito. He is going to be on the injured list for a few days due to a hamstring issue. It sounds like it won’t cost him too much time which makes it better news than it could have been. Obviously, you want Lucas Giolito on the mound as much as possible because he is elite but having him ready for the playoffs is the most important thing.

Giolito has had an interesting season. He had a slower start to the season than he probably would have liked but it didn’t stay that way. In recent weeks, he is back to being one of the best pitchers in all of baseball. With some of the other pitchers on this staff, it is amazing to see him back to this level because it really makes the group look even more lethal.

In 158.1 innings pitched, he has a 3.69 ERA, 1.112 WHIP, and 180 strikeouts. The ERA is a little bit inflated from earlier in the season but it has come way down. The 180 strikeouts are where things look amazing. He is currently ranked 4th in the American League in strikeouts with a total like that. There is no doubt that his stuff has been on lately because no one can hit it.

Lance Lynn is also missing a start because of a short IL stint so it makes it a little bit tougher but they will get through it. They have such a big lead in the American League Central so it is good that they don’t have to worry about that. At this point, getting to the playoffs as healthy as possible is the key.

The Chicago White Sox needs Lucas Giolito ready for postseason baseball.

Tony La Russa commented on this decision to have Giolito on the injured list. He believes that this will help keep him off the field until he is actually ready to go. With a stint on the IL, there is a good chance that his availability will match when he is physically good to go.

Giolito is the type of guy who will be ready for the playoffs. You can bank on him being the best version of himself when that time comes. With guys like Lance Lynn, Carlos Rodon, and Dylan Cease in the mix, this group has a chance to do something special. It is, in a lot of ways, good that they all are getting some time off to rest. The biggest games are still ahead.
