Saturday night’s game between the Chicago White Sox and Boston Red Sox had its ups and downs for both teams. For the White Sox, they went down 7-2 early. Dylan Cease had his first bad home game of the season and the Red Sox took advantage. That came after a dominant first two innings but it did all fall apart. As for Boston, things didn’t go smoothly for them either as they blew that lead.

The White Sox even had an 8-7 lead before the Red Sox tied it in the 8th. Boston was able to score that extra man on second and they pulled out the 9-8 win in a very close battle. Clearly, these two teams play each other very well as they are now tied 3-3 in the season series.

One player who did stand out in the game was Michael Kopech. He was his normal dominant self and he showed his best stuff against Boston’s best hitters. If that is the Kopech that we see for the rest of the season and into the playoffs, he is back to being that superweapon that we know and love.

Striking out Xander Bogaerts, Rafael Devers, Kike Hernandez, Travis Shaw, and Bobby Dalbec over two hitless innings is no easy task. The heart of Boston’s batting order is why they are where they are in the standings and not much more. Kopech was locked in which is a great sign. He was able to combine his breaking stuff with his 100 miles per hour fastball to fool hitters.

Michael Kopech is extremely important to the success of the Chicago White Sox.

Michael Kopech was clearly happy with the way that he pitched in this one based on the quotes. Knowing that he is confident in himself right now is a big key to this White Sox team. With the bullpen that they have assembled, getting him to the highest level is very important. He has the potential to be an elite starter and an elite long reliever. Both of those would help out a lot in October.

Outside of Kopech, the pitching wasn’t as good as we would like but it gave them a chance to win in the grand scheme of things. They didn’t fare well in the one inning that they gave up seven runs and it cost them. Luckily, we learned that the offense can really heat up and help this team win. With the rubber match on the line today, you should probably expect Kopech to be unavailable.
