Major League Baseball (and the Chicago White Sox) has problems right now. As we stand, there will be no season in 2022 because of a lockout. The collective bargaining agreement expired and the two sides disagree on a lot of things. It is not a lot of fun to be a fan of the sport right now as we have to deal with millionaires and billionaires arguing.
There are plenty of things that need to be negotiated like economic-related things along with different rules and regulations. Of course, money-related things are always going to be the most contentious. There is a lot of bad blood between both sides historically.
Luckily, there is a beam of light coming in the form of a meeting. The MLB and MLBPA are meeting today to negotiate some things. Major League Baseball is going to make a core-economics proposal to the MLBPA. It will be the first time that this happened since the lockout was initiated on December 2nd. This is all according to Jeff Passan of ESPN.
The Chicago White Sox needs this bargaining session to go well on Thursday.
This is not the end all be all but it is a good start. Not waiting until a week before spring training is a good sign that they could get this thing done. It is fair to still be pessimistic right now but there is a beam of hope.
The White Sox need this thing to end as much as any team in Major League Baseball. For one, they are an elite team with World Series aspirations. Missing any games because of this nonsense isn’t good for them at all. They need to be playing as many games as possible in order to be sure that they are ready for October.
It is also just bad for the development of players. They have some highly skilled young players that are not allowed to have any sort of contact with the team. That is very bad for a lot of people that are looking to take the next step.
For example, someone like Michael Kopech having zero contact with Ethan Katz is not good for him at all. We need to see all of the coaches back with the players as soon as possible so that they can continue working to develop. For a lot of reasons, the White Sox really needs this meeting to go well.
