Dylan Cease had enchanted stuff in Chicago White Sox win
The Chicago White Sox almost made a furious comeback on Sunday against the Los Angeles Angels. They came up one run short but were hoping to carry that momentum into the series finale on Monday afternoon. They certainly did that.
It starts and ends in this 3-0 win with the performance by Dylan Cease. He went 7.0 innings and gave up no runs and only gave up one hit. He also had 11 strikeouts on the day which tied his career-high. 3 of those 11 strikeouts came against Mike Trout who is the best player in the league.
Those three runs might not sound like a lot but it was just the right amount for a game like this. They had a very productive first inning that put them up 2-0. From there, Cease had significantly less pressure on him.
Later in the game, Jake Burger hit a double that scored Jose Abreu to make it 3-0. That would prove to be the final score as Kendall Graveman and Liam Hendriks shut it down in the 8th and 9th inning to preserve the win.
Hendriks, in particular, was magnificent as he strike out the side (including Mike Trout who earned the golden sombrero). He had some struggles in April but you might remember that it happened in 2021 as well and he still went on to win the Reliever of the Year Award.
The Chicago White Sox won a game that they desperately needed to win.
Luis Robert is starting to look like himself again as he had three hits in the ballgame. He returned in this series and started to really heat it up. We know what this guy is capable of when he is at the height of his power which he seems to be right now.
It was really nice to see Dylan Cease dominate the way that he did. He has the stuff capable of being a legit ace on the staff. Luckily, the White Sox have three other guys who can do that as well which is a great problem to have. It will be interesting to see how he progresses going forward.
The team that traded Dylan Cease to the White Sox is the Chicago Cubs who just happens to be their next opponent. The White Sox have two games coming up on the north side who are a much weaker opponent.
They need to go in there and dominate so they can turn their season around for good. Splitting this series over what looks like a good Angels team was certainly a step in the right direction after losing three straight series before that. The time to win is now.
