Jose Abreu has been an impressive player for the Chicago White Sox over the course of his MLB career. He has been a Rookie of the Year, MVP, and Silver Slugger Award winner along with just being one of the most consistent hitters in team history.

Abreu already has started making his way up many of the White Sox’s record books. One of the things that fans most enjoy is seeing the White Sox play well against the Chicago Cubs. Abreu has certainly done that.

On Wednesday, the White Sox defeated the Cubs at Wrigley Field to complete the sweep. It was the seventh time that the White sox have beaten the Cubs in their last eight games against them. In the process, Jose Abreu made a little bit of history.

Abreu hit a home run that gave the White Sox a 1-0 lead in the first inning. That was his 8th career home run at Wrigley Field. That breaks the White Sox record for most at Wrigley. The record was previously a tie between Jermaine Dye and Paul Konerko at 7. Carlos Lee had 6 and AJ Pierzynski had 5.

The Chicago White Sox get a lot of elite production from Jose Abreu’s bat.

Now, Abreu’s dominance against the Cubs has been a little bit more recent rather than over the span of his entire career. However, it is clear that he is a dominated of Wrigley Field baseball at this point. The man loves playing against the Cubs.

Jose Abreu has taken a little bit of time to get going in each of the last few full seasons. He normally starts to heat up once the summer weather kicks in. That is upon us so this Cubs series might serve as his starting point in terms of eite production.

Over the next few years, we can only hope that guys like Eloy Jimenez, Luis Robert, and Yoan Moncada start to climb this list as well. Beating the Cubs has proven to be a good starting point for the White Sox in the history of the all-time series.

It has also helped the Cubs in the other direction as well in years that the White Sox are not very good. If this series was an indicator of the future, there are some good times coming up for both Abreu and the White Sox.
