The Boston Red Sox are a team that is hard to read right now. They play in an impossibly hard AL East Division where they are already in trouble because of how good the division is and how bad they have been. Even the Chicago White Sox managed to sweep them a couple of weekends ago.

They have a lot of talented players on their roster who have had championship success with them in the past. One of those players is shortstop Xander Bogaerts. He is playing in the final year of his current contract and the rumors have been going strong.

FanSided dot com listed the White Sox as one of the teams that could be in the mix for Bogaerts as long as he is willing to change positions. That would just need to be for 2022 as he is probably looking to get paid like the elite shortstop that he is.

The White Sox certainly don’t need to stay committed to Leury Garcia or Josh Harrison at second base as an upgrade would make them an even better team for the rest of the season. If they pulled off a trade like this, they would be good enough to compete in the AL pennant race.

If he was willing to play second base, the White Sox would love Xander Bogaerts.

Of course, this is highly unlikely as the Red Sox still may want to extend him. However, if he isn’t extended by the deadline, they might look to ship him off to at least get something for him. These are three trades that they might be able to make:

The Chicago White Sox might have to pay up big in order to land a player like this.

Landing one of the best players on the Boston Red Sox would certainly cost a lot. That is the case even though there is a good chance that he is only a 2022 rental. With that, the White Sox might want to offer him an extension to stay with them forever if they made a deal like this.

Losing both Andrew Vaughn and Oscar Colas would certainly hurt in the long term but it could be what helps this team get over the edge this year. Their championship window is only going to be open for so long so they might as well try to take advantage.

They would be adding Vaughn into their 2022 starting lineup which wouldn’t fully replace Bogaerts but he’d be good enough for the team to claim that they haven’t given up on the year yet. There is also a really good chance that Alex Cora would be much smarter with his usage.

The White sox landed Colas in international free agency this winter but we knew it was coming for over a year. It was one of the worst-kept secrets in all of baseball for all of that time. He is someone that could provide high trade value at this point in his development. You just never know what either of these guys can turn into offensively.

The Red Sox might want a good young pitcher in the mix from the White Sox.

The Chicago White Sox have done a good job with developing their pitching over the last few years. That is why they might be able to trade one of them off for some help in other areas. This trade includes Garrett Crochet, Gavin Sheets, and Yoelqui Cespedes.

For one, Crochet is one of the best pitchers in the Chicago White Sox organization. He is out for the season after Tommy John surgery but we saw how well that worked out for Michael Kopech who might be a right-handed version of Crochet in terms of talent.

He isn’t going to be back until next year but that would make sense for the Red Sox since their season is basically over anyway. We can only hope that he gets back to being as dominant as he was before this tough injury.

Gavin Sheets is really heating up lately. He isn’t like a superstar young player or anything like that but he is just a really slid young power hitter. If he hit in that Boston lineup as a lefty at Fenway Park, he could really do some damage.

Yoelqui Cespedes might have more “boom or bust” potential than anyone in the White Sox organization. It doesn’t seem like “average MLB player” is in the cards for him. He is either not going to ever make it big or become a superstar.

The Red Sox might be looking for a little bit of that in their rebuilding phase. It isn’t going to be a long rebuild (it usually never is in Boston in any sport) for them but they have some work to do there in Boston. This might be a good starting point.

The White Sox might need to give up more than they thought for Bogaerts.

The Boston Red Sox might not want to get rid of Xander Bogaerts for just anyone. They certainly want a better return than they got for Mookie Betts a few offseasons ago. They won’t get that little back but they also might get a lot more.

If they were only willing to give him up for a lot, it still might be something for the White Sox to think about. As mentioned before, winning the World Series or even having a roster like this doesn’t happen often. Bogaerts is elite and brings championship experience.

This trade is like combining the other two and adding even more with the idea that it is going to take a lot to trade for this guy. You already were told what would happen if Boston landed Crochet and Vaughn. Thier organization would love it too.

Colson Montgomery and Jake Burger were both first-round picks for the White Sox in recent drafts. Montgomery is currently listed as the team’s number one prospect and will continue trying to grow his game both offensively and defensively.

Jake Burger doesn’t deserve to be in AAA right now but he is. There are plenty of people that deserved to go down over Burger but you never know. He can hit for power and contact which makes him incredibly useful to a team.

Burger wouldn’t play third over Rafael Devers in Boston so like the White Sox, if they landed Bogaerts, they would have to figure something out for him in terms of his position. Either way, this would be a massive trade that would mean a lot to both organizations for very different reasons. You just never know these days.
