3 White Sox who should be traded by MLB trade deadline
The Chicago White Sox are a very interesting baseball team. The beginning of the 2022 season has had some ups and downs. They are a team loaded with talent that has seen some injuries and inconsistent play keep them from reaching their true potential.
However, there is a lot of hope surrounding this team because of how good the players there are. The manager has also held them down but he might be able to get better as the year goes along as he did in 2021.
The team is going to try and make some moves as the year goes along in order to produce a deep run in the playoffs. It is going to be hard but they are certainly going to try. These are three players that need to be traded off the roster before the deadline to make room for others:
The Chicago White Sox don’t need to have Vince Velasquez on the team anymore.
Vince Velasquez was the big starting pitching addition for the White Sox over the winter. Of course, the lockout impacted things but it impacted things for all of Major League Baseball and not just the White Sox. That is not good enough and he shouldn’t be with the team for the whole season.
If there is a team that might need a 5th starter, the White Sox could trade them Velasquez for relatively cheap. Getting someone’s 15th best prospect would be better than nothing but even that is a stretch. He might be able to help someone else but the White Sox have better options.
If the rest of the rotation is able to maintain health and pitch better than he has, they should really look into this. There is another White Sox starter on this list who might deserve to go more but it will be hard for 16 million reasons.
The Chicago White Sox are wasting their time with Dallas Keuchel in 2022.
In 2020, Dallas Keuchel was one of the best pitchers in the American League. He finished with better numbers than Lucas Gilito who was also magnificent that year as well. The difference is that Lucas Giolito is getting better and better while Keuchel declines hard.
The only person who doesn’t know that Dallas Keuchel is declining is Dallas Keuchel too as he makes rude comments about defense and the manager taking him out too early the only time he does have a good start. They need to lose this guy as soon as possible.
As mentioned before, Dallas Keuchel is significantly better paid than Vince Velasquez and he has a higher reputation than him so Velasquez is the odd man out of the rotation right now. They both need to go but Keuchel might need to go sooner.
It is sad to see what has happened as he is a former Cy Young Award winner and World Series champion but the White Sox can’t be using this guy in a division title race. They have very little chance to win when he is on the mound.
If there is a team out there willing to take a prospect to eat Keuchel’s contract or give him a chance to start with low pressure, the White Sox should do it. If he keeps pitching as bad as he has for the last year and a half, they should just DFA him. Enough is enough.
The Chicago White Sox should trade Aaron Bummer while they can get value.
Aaron Bummer probably still has value across Major League Baseball. He has nasty stuff when he is on but he hasn’t been on for most of the season. He is just coming back from a 10-day IL stint so we can only hope that he returns to normal but it might be time to trade him.
For the last few seasons, he has been considered to be one of the better relief pitchers in the league. He can be a victim of bad luck because he is a heavy sinker ball thrower but that can only be an excuse for so long. The White Sox might be able to make a good trade involving him.
Whether it is for prospects of players that can help them win in 2022, they should consider it before he really sinks his value to the point of no return. It should really be something that the team considers because he just hasn’t looked like himself at any point this season so far.
We don’t know if the White Sox will actually cut any of these guys. The first two are DFA candidates depending on how the season goes but all could be on the trade block before the deadline comes. No matter what happens, all we can hope for is the White Sox returning to form.
