Beating the Cubs should be considered a must for the White Sox

The Chicago White Sox are having a very unique season so far. A lot of fans are upset at the 22-22 record to start the year but some perspectives must be taken into consideration. They have dealt with a  lot of injuries that caused them to play short-handed.

There wasn’t a Yermin Mercedes lighting the world on fire in the early going of 2022 like there was in 2021 while the team dealt with injuries. There is still a lot of season left for them to get things right and go on a run into the playoffs.

With the expectations placed on this team going in, it is fair to believe that it can happen. It all starts on Saturday when they host the Chicago Cubs in part two of the Crosstown Classic. Speaking of expectations, the expectations of the Chicago Cubs is that they are horrid.

They come into this series 18-26 after splitting a series with the Cincinnati Reds who might have the worst roster in the history of Major League Baseball. Losing to this Cubs team would be a travesty for the White Sox.

The Chicago White Sox really needs to defeat the Chicago Cubs this weekend.

The White Sox swept the Cubs at Wrigley Field earlier in May. The team was in an even worse spot for those games than they are right now. In fact, the White Sox have been (although it doesn’t feel like it) a pretty good team since that series with an 11-9 record.

It would be great if the White Sox could do that again. It will all begin at Guaranteed Rate Field on Saturday night. Johnny Cueto is on the mound for the White Sox looking to keep his outstanding streak of good pitching going.

His last start against the New York Yankees was magnificent and this Cubs team has a significantly worse lineup. The White Sox are looking for a solid number five for when Lance Lynn returns and this is one of Cueto’s last auditions to stay in the rotation. His chances look good as he enters this game with a 0.00 ERA through 12 innings.

The Cubs have a few good hitters but the White Sox pitching should be able to keep them at bay. It is a significant drop-off from playing the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox in back to back series. Hopefully, the White Sox are able to get a winning streak going with the Chicago Cubs on the South Side of town.
