The Chicago White Sox are the most disappointing team in Major League Baseball this year. They are now over the halfway point and are multiple games under .500. They are also well out of the division lead in the AL Central. It would take a miracle for them to come back.

Friday night’s game against the Detroit Tigers was another example of the White Sox coming up just short. That has been the story of the entire season. This team loves to make you think something great is happening and then it goes down the drain.

This game started pretty as Luis Robert hit one onto the concourse. That gave the team a 2-0 lead in the first inning. It looked like one of those games that the White Sox would cruise to victory. The Tigers had other plans.

Lucas Giolito pitched well for most of the game but Tony La Russa had no clue that he was clearly out of gas in the seventh inning. He let him stay in and the game was put out of reach by Detroit’s offense. At least, it seemed out of reach.

In the 8th and 9th inning, the White Sox looked like they were going to be able to do just enough to complete the comeback. They fell just shy of doing so and lost the game by a final score of 7-5. It is becoming a series that looks like a season-ender.

The Chicago White Sox are one of the most disappointing teams in the league.

Of course, we haven’t even hit the All-Star break yet. This team is just starting to get back to full strength which is something we have yet to see at all this year. The problem is that it is hard to believe that they will stay fully healthy for a significant amount of time.

It is also hard to believe that they are going to magically start scoring more runs any time soon. This team is just brutal in every way. They are a competitive team that has a chance to win every night but they don’t. That makes it even more frustrating than if they were still rebuilding.

Their next chance to win a game comes on Saturday afternoon against these same Detroit Tigers. Johnny Cueto is going to be on the mound against Garrett Hill. We will see if the White Sox make the rookie with 6.0 career innings pitched (although great innings) look like Pedro Martinez.
