Chicago White Sox: These 3 trades bring back Carlos Rodon
The San Francisco Giants might become sellers as a result of their recent slide. In 2021 they overachieved and in 2022 they underachieved.
As a result, it might be time to hit the reset button as they head down the stretch of this season. They have some players that might interest other teams still in it.
The Chicago White Sox, despite their own struggles, are much closer to being a division winner than the Giants are. As a result, they could make a move.
The Giants have a few players that might interest the White Sox but one of them is Carlos Rodon. If he were to come back to his old club, the trade might look like this:
The Chicago White Sox would love to add Carlos Rodon back. They should consider it even if it means that they are giving up some quality Minor League players that may or may not be good in the big leagues.
Lenyn Sosa made his Major League debut earlier this season but he jumped up from AA. That was probably a mistake as he struggled at the big league level and is now struggling in AAA. All of that is expected so he will still be a good player but the White Sox can still think about moving him.
The Giants might like the fact that he was so good in AA to deserve that call-up but they would probably keep him in AAA for the rest of the year. Adding prospects like that is never a bad idea when you are selling.
Kade McClure is the 27th-ranked prospect in the White Sox system so he is someone that would be a throw-in to see if the Giants can get anything out of him. It isn’t a huge haul but not many teams are overpaying for someone who may opt-out.
The Chicago White Sox could send two pitchers to the SF Giants for Carlos Rodon.
The Chicago White Sox would love to have Carlos Rodon back. For most of the 2021 season, he was the best pitcher on the team. It was his first fully healthy season so he did experience some arm fatigue late in the year but he was mostly elite.
The fact that they didn’t give him an offer is just horrible. He deserved to be given the chance to come back to the White Sox. If he rejected it, they would have been given an extra draft pick and some extra money but they decided not to.
Now, they would have to admit they were wrong in order to give something up to get him but it is worth it. Sending over Davis Martin and Jonathan Stiever to get him back would be a no-brainer. The Giants would be getting two decent pitching prospects for someone who may leave.
Martin has been really good in the few starts that he made with the White Sox this season. Getting something for him with his value this high might be a smart idea. Some might be upset to see him go but it would be so worth it for a pitcher like Carlos Rodon.
The Chicago White Sox could try to land more than Carlos Rodon from the Giants.
When it comes to a trade, the Chicago White Sox could be really smart. Despite all of their struggles, they are still within very realistic striking distance of the division lead. Acquiring someone like Carlos Rodon would really help them make that leap.
The Giants also have other players that would make sense for the White Sox in a deal like this. Joc Pederson has been a player that Chicago White Sox fans have wanted for a long time and he would fit in very well with this group.
If he continued what he was doing for most of this season so far with the White Sox, he would be the perfect power threat in the middle of this lineup. With some of the other bats that would surround him, there could be some amusing potential with that lineup.
Of course, a move that lands you both Rodon and Pederson is going to cost a fair price. Norge Vera, Wes Kath, and Sean Burke are all highly touted White Sox prospects that could become good MLB players one day. The Giants may see this as a fair return for potential free agents that they might be selling.
The Giants have to commit to retooling their roster in order for any of this to happen. They have one last series against the lowly Chicago Cubs before the deadline. If that series doesn’t go very well, it could become a possibility.
