Chicago White Sox: 3 contract types to offer Aaron Judge

The Chicago White Sox are a team that is going to be looking to make some improvements during the offseason. This 2022 season has been a disaster for them in a year that started with World Series-level expectations. Now, it is time to move forward.

Someone that is not having a disaster season is Aaron Judge. He is going to win the American League MVP as he is having a record-breaking season that could lead t a Triple Crown.

After this 2022 season, Judge is a free agent that is free to go wherever he wants. He has not publicly committed to the New York Yankees which suggests that there is a chance that he wants out.

In the unlikely situation that the White Sox land him, there are a lot of different contracts that he can be offered. These are the three most likely:

1. The Max – 10 years/$350 million

The Chicago White Sox should consider signing Aaron Judge for a lot of money.

Of course, the easiest way to bring in a superstar like Aaron Judge is to offer them lots of money and term. If the White Sox offered him a ten-year contract worth 350 million dollars, it would be hard for him to turn it down as he is in his 30s.

The White Sox have never given a player a contract worth 100 million so obviously, a deal like this would be record-breaking in a lot of ways. The highest paid contract in the history of the team is Yasmani Grandal’s at 74 million.

A few years ago, the White Sox were in on giving a lot of money to Manny Machado and Bryce Harper and neither of them chose to go there. they have shown that they have seats at the table but it is becoming not good enough anymore. It would be great to see them make a deal like this.

2. A Carlos Correa type deal – 3 years 100 million with opt-outs

The Chicago White Sox could offer Aaron Judge a contract with opt-outs.

Carlos Correa was one of the biggest free agents over the previous offseason. A lot of people thought that he was going to sign a big 10-year deal with someone and finish out his career with that team. It was also assumed that it would be with one of the big-money franchises.

Instead, he decided to sign a short-term deal with the Minnesota Twins who nobody had on their bingo cards. He is making a lot of money but the biggest wrinkle in the contract is that he can opt out after any f the years. It is fair to assume that he will be out after this disappointing season for them.

The Minnesota Twins didn’t do enough this year to make it worth it for Correa to stay. However, the White Sox might be able to get something out of a deal like this with Judge. He might make a lot of money per season but giving him the chance to get out of it might make it work.

The White Sox have a lot invested in the 2023 season. If they don’t win the World Series that year or at least make a deep playoff run, there are going to be even more changes.

That is why adding Judge with a contract like this would be really smart. In one year, he can decide that this team is worth sticking around for in a great city or he can move on if they fail to make the playoffs again.

3. Mid-tier deal – 7 years – 300 million dollars – 3-year opt-out

The Chicago White Sox could work anything that Aaron Judge wanted in a deal.

The Chicago White Sox, if he is interested, should do whatever they can to bring in a player like Aaron Judge. If he wants money, term, options, or a free soda every day for the duration of the contract, they should do anything to make it happen.

That is why a deal that is some combination of all that is a possibility for the White Sox or whatever team goes for him. A deal for seven years and 300 million dollars with options after three years is something that would make a lot of sense for someone like Judge.

It would also make sense for the White Sox as they could potentially see him go if they aren’t a good team after a few more years. It is also tempting for Judge because there is term in case his play dips a little bit. Seven years long also means that he won’t hit his 40s on the deal.

Obviously, as mentioned already a few times, it is not likely that the White Sox make a move like this with their current ownership group. However, if there is a change there over the next year, anything is possible. No matter who it is, we just want to see the White Sox get better.
