The Chicago White Sox came into southern California with their season-long eight-game losing streak snapped as they beat the Minnesota Twins on Thursday. That is nice as they try to play spoiler against the San Diego Padres.

Luckily, they were able to get the job done for their second win in a row as they won 3-1. It isn’t easy to beat a team with as much talent as San Diego but the White Sox found a way. These two teams don’t play a lot so it was fun seeing them on the same field.

Davis Martin was the biggest reason for the success of the White Sox in game one of this series. He went 5.2 innings where he allowed just one run on six hits with no walks. He also had a career-high eight strikeouts t help his team win the game.

The bullpen got the job done from there highlighted by Liam Hendriks and his 35th save of the season. It hasn’t been a perfect science for the White Sox this season but they got the job done against a Padres lineup that has some well-known heavy hitters.

The Chicago White Sox won a big road game against the San Diego Padres.

As for the offense, there wasn’t much but the three runs scored were just enough for the White Sox to get the win on the back of very good pitching. The highlight of the year was the home run that came off the bat of Eloy Jimenez. His hot second half continues which is a great sign.

Yoan Moncada has had a terrible season. However, he was brilliant in this game as he had three total hits, an RBI, and a run scored. Of everyone on the team, he can be argued as the offensive MVP. Gavin Sheets, Elvis Andrus, and Andrew Vaughn also contributed with their bats.

Now, the Padres are only up on a playoff spot by a couple of games. They are in a hard battle for two spots with the Philadelphia Phillies and the Milwaukee Brewers. For a lot of reasons, it would be amazing to see the White Sox keep them out.

The second game of the series will take place on Saturday night when Dylan Cease tries to win the Cy Young Award. It might be a long shot at this point but a big night here could certainly help him. He will face San Diego’s, Mike Clevinger.

The White Sox are going to need to play a similar type of game if they are going to get a big win here. At this point, anything is possible. At the end of the day, it would just be nice to see Cease have an incredible game for a purpose.
