How did the AL champions do against the White Sox in 2022?
The Chicago White Sox were missing from the 2022 Major League Baseball postseason. It was a bad year for them as they only went 81-81 when they believed coming in that they could be the American League champions.
This postseason has proven that anybody can beat anybody which makes the White Sox missing even worse. With that in mind, the Houston Astros were the best team in the American League and now they are the pennant winners.
It was a great year for Houston as they went 106-56 which was gd for another American League West Division win. The Seattle Mariners were very good (and hot down the stretch) and Houston still found a way to win the division title by 16.0 games.
They have been the measuring stick in this league for a long time now. They are in the World Series as the American League champion for the second straight year and four of the last six years. In those two years that they weren’t in the World Series, they were still in the ALCS.
The Chicago White Sox haven’t had much luck against the Houston Astros lately.
We all know about how the White Sox beat the Astros in the 2005 World Series. That was an amazing time in this all-time series. However, since then, the Astros have become a dominant power in the league.
The White Sox were defeated by the Houston Astros in the playoffs last year via the ALDS. Houston won the series 3-1. Since then, the Astros went to the World Series (The Atlanta Braves defeated them) and then won 100+ games again while the White Sox have fallen back.
In 2022, the White Sox didn’t play that well against them. In the second series, they beat them as the stakes were a bit higher for the White Sox but the overall season series went in the way of the Astros. The series score was 4-3 Houston.
Chicago scored 28 runs in the series and allowed Houston to score 48. To be honest, with a run differential like that, the 3-4 record isn’t all that bad for the White Sox. They have a long way to go before they are as good as they are right now.
Houston is going to also beat out the White Sox in one more thing. Justin Verlander was just a tick better than Dylan Cease this year so they will be the 1-2 finishers in that race as well. It would have been nice to see Cease win it but it doesn’t appear likely now.
The Astros are certainly going to be favored in the World Series against the Philadelphia Phillies. Philly is on a nice run but the Astros feel like they might be too much. We will see.
After everything that went on with the cheating scandal, they are trying to prove everyone wrong about their status as the best team in the AL. 3-4 isn’t that good of a record against an opponent but the White Sox should be happy it wasn’t much worse based on this 2022 season.
