The field is ready, the tickets are sold, and Rate Field is set for its first White Sox playoff game since 2021. Unlike five years ago, when the White Sox came home from Houston needing to win to survive in the playoffs, Chicago enters Game 3 with a 2-0 series lead and is just one win away from clinching their first playoff series at home since 1906. Former players, coaches, and other White Sox affiliates are unsurprisingly sharing their thoughts about the remarkable story of the 2026 White Sox, and former longtime announcer Hawk Harrelson is no exception.

Hawk doesn’t make too many public appearances nowadays, but he appeared on ESPN 1000 Wednesday morning with Waddle and Silvy and was asked to give a message to White Sox fans prior to Game 3.

Hawk Harrelson is a staple of every longtime White Sox fan

It’s been more than eight years since White Sox fans have heard one of Hawk Harrelson’s signature sayings from the man himself. He never played for the White Sox, but became a broadcaster for them in 1981 after spending six seasons as a Red Sox broadcaster. Harrelson took a break from broadcasting for the 1986 season, in which he became the team’s General Manager. During his lone season as GM, he fired both Tony La Russa and Dave Dombrowski, who went on to have excellent careers in baseball. After departing the White Sox, Hawk became the announcer for the Yankees for 1987 and 1988 before returning to the booth for the White Sox in 1990.

Throughout his 28 years in the booth, Hawk became known for his signature sayings and true homerism. There was never any doubt who he was rooting for and he’s always been quick to share about his personal experiences in the game. Hawk announced his retirement following the 2018 season. In 2019, he was named the Ford C. Frick Award winner, the highest honor for a broadcaster, and he was officially inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2021.

Hawk celebrated his 85th birthday in September and has remained a loyal fan of the White Sox even after his retirement. His stepping into the spotlight to share his thoughts on the remarkable White Sox run should have every White Sox fan fired up heading into Wednesday’s game.

Rate Field is undoubtedly going to be rocking for Game 3 on Wednesday, with a sellout crowd dressed in all black and the White Sox wearing their black uniforms at home for the first time in five years. The expectation is for a “big name” to be throwing out the first pitch, but that information has not yet been revealed. Should the White Sox fail to get the job done today, I’ll be driving up to Chicago tomorrow to attend Game 4.

The atmosphere will be electric, the crowds will be wild, and America will be watching. All that’s left to do is win the game.
