The Chicago White Sox actually made a big signing. After rumors of interest for a couple of days, they have signed Mike Clevinger to a contract. He will be a part of their rotation in 2023 and will be a much-needed addition. This is the first major move that Chicago has made this winter.

Clevinger will join players like Dylan Cease, Michael Kopech, Lance Lynn, and Lucas Giolito. All of those guys have a reason to come back strong in 2023 for different reasons. This is a rotation that has the potential to be really good if they all pitch to thier potential.

Clevinger didn't have the best 2022 season. He was amazing with Cleveland before being traded to the San Diego Padres in 2020. It's not that he was bad with them early on, he just didn't play a lot for them because of the Tommy John surgery that he dealt with.

Coming back from a surgery like that is never easy for a pitcher. It can take a while to find what it was that made you so good at one point. He wasn't awful but he wasn't the same pitcher that we know he can be. The White Sox are hoping that he can regain some of that magic that he once had.

Ethan Katz is really going to help Mike Clevinger bounce back in 2023.

The good thing is that the White Sox trust Ethan Katz to help Clevinger bounce back this year. Some people might not like him because they think that Lucas Giolito is his fault but it is actually Katz's fault that Giolito was ever good at all. He is a wonderful young pitching coach.

Clevinger has a lot of talent and Katz thrives with guys like that. We've seen what Dylan Cease can do under him and even Michael Kopech has had some brilliant development. When everyone is healthy, Katz can help them reach their potential.

His velocity was down in 2022 and Katz has a lot of ways to help guys overcome that. You can even look to Johnny Cueto for evidence. Clevinger is younger than Cueto and probably has a lot more left in the tank. It should be a lot of fun to watch.

Next. Jacob deGrom would fit in so well with the White Sox. dark
