The Chicago White Sox can now move forward with the offseason
The Chicago White Sox are finally a team that has a manager. They were the last team that needed a manager to make a hire but that deed is now done. They can move on and start thinking about what is going to happen with this group. There are a lot of big decisions to be made.
The White Sox were incredibly ordinary in 2022. That is fine sometimes but not in a year that has World Series expectations. They went 81-81 one year after going 93-69. That is quite the difference. In order to get back to that, some changes need to be made and they already have a big one complete with the manager.
Jose Abreu is a big-time player in franchise history. You can absolutely make the argument that he is one of the ten best players that have ever put on this uniform. Now, he is a free agent that might be looking for a new home.
This is probably the biggest decision for the team to make now that they have a new manager. Whether they keep him or not will also impact a few other players because the White Sox have a cluster of players with similar skill sets
The Chicago White Sox need to have a big offseason to improve the team.
Eloy Jimenez, Andrew Vaughn, and Gavin Sheets are all guys who play either first base, the outfield, or designated hitter so their role in the future is going to depend on the decision made by the White Sox and Abreu. We will see.
After that, there are going to be some other holes to fill. They need a legit right fielder, a second baseman, and some pitching depth. There are players in the system that will try and take those jobs but it would be nice to see some free agents and trades made.
All of this is going to take a long time and might get going around the Winter Meetings. However, it is good to know that a manager is in place and the team can start focusing on the offseason moves made that will improve the roster. Hopefully, it helps them have a much better 2023.
