The Chicago White Sox made the Pedro Grifol hiring officially official on Thursday morning. It was reported a few days ago but the team announced it on Thursday via social media. They also had an introductory press conference to introduce him, let him speak, and field questions.
He sat up there with Rick Hahn and they both had some interesting things to say about the team. We can only hope that they both stay true to the words that came out of their mouths during this presser.
When it ended, they went out and took some pictures on the field. He also did a few different interviews across different platforms. It was a nice little day to introduce him and celebrate a new era of White Sox baseball.
That wouldn't be the end of the day for him either. He was acknowledged at the United Center as the Chicago Blackhawks took on the Los Angeles Kings. He was there sporting a Blackhawks jersey which was really cool for Chicago sports fans to see.
Pedro Grifol is starting his Chicago White Sox tenure off on a good foot.
So far, it sounds like he is trying to build a relationship with the locals. We know how folks care about all of their teams deeply. This was a great way to start becoming "one of us" for Grifol.
One thing that should be noted is the fact that Yasmani Grandal was also there with him. Both of them are catchers by trade when it comes to their positions. Going into the year, Grandal having a good bounce-back season is one of the biggest keys for this team.
It is good to see these two already hanging out knowing what we know about this past season. Seeing a leader on this team like Grandal already hanging out with the new manager is a great sign.
It is certainly all fun and games right now. Once the offseason is complete, however, they need to get things off to a good start on the field otherwise the love is going to go away. For now, though, it was really nice to see him out there with Chicago sports fans.
