Tristan Peters' dominance continues to be biggest story on upstart White Sox in 2026

Of all the remarkable stories on the upstart 2026 White Sox, none have been more incredible than the emergence of center fielder Tristan Peters. A year ago, only die -hard Rays fans had likely heard of Peters, who was a 25-year-old outfielder posting modest numbers in the minor leagues and on his third organization. Now, he’s an All-Star center fielder and one of the key contributors on one of the most surprising teams in baseball. And it feels like the legend of Tristan Peters is growing stronger by the day. 

It felt like the peak of the season for Peters when he hit for the cycle back on July 10th against the Athletics. The day after accomplishing this feat, Peters was named to the American League All-Star team. A slow start to the second half had White Sox fans feeling like his incredible run could be coming back to earth, but Peters made the necessary adjustments. Since August 1, Peters is slashing .349/.438/.730 and he’s doubled his total of six home runs entering the month. Entering Friday’s game, Peters is currently in the midst of a streak of five consecutive games with a home run, tying the White Sox franchise record and becoming the second player on the roster to do it this season.

Over the past week, Peters has become just the second player in MLB history to have 10+ hits, a homer in each game, multiple doubles, multiple walks, and a stolen base in a five game span. The first? Babe Ruth. Overall, Peters enters the weekend slashing .282/.346/.475 with 12 home runs and an .821 OPS, while also playing excellent defense in center field. His 3.8 fWAR is second only to Miguel Vargas on the White Sox roster and ranks second among AL center fielders. He’s primarily been a platoon player at this point with most of his starts coming against right-handers, but he had a double and a home run against left-handers Wednesday night, so perhaps he’s starting to figure out both sides of the platoon. 

In a season where it felt like the White Sox had a major question mark in center field after dealing away Luis Robert Jr. in the offseason, the team has found an answer in a big way. Tristan Peters barely made the Opening Day roster and didn’t open the year as the team’s primary center fielder, but his game has evolved to a point where he’s one of the bigger contributors in the lineup, and the White Sox feel like they’ve found their future starter at the position. 

As Peters’ list of achievements in 2026 continues to grow, the White Sox can keep throwing him into the biggest opportunities with confidence that he’ll come through. Tristan Peters hasn’t only been the biggest story on the White Sox in 2026, but one of the biggest stories in baseball. And the legend should only grow as the postseason rapidly approaches.
