As the 2026 MLB season approaches its final month, the White Sox hopes for a postseason berth remain alive. At this point in the season, all 30 teams have been ravaged by injuries to varying degrees, and may be without some key contributors down the stretch. For the White Sox, the injury news over the weekend was positive for the major league club, but not great for a couple of the team’s top prospects. Here are the latest White Sox injury updates from the weekend.
Kyle Teel to start rehab Tuesday
White Sox catcher Kyle Teel, who has been sidelined since mid-July with an ankle injury, will head out to Charlotte to begin a rehab assignment on Tuesday. Teel ran the bases before Sunday’s game against the Mets to clear his final hurdle toward a return. It hasn’t been the season Teel or the White Sox envisioned for his second year, but Teel could still be in position to contribute down the stretch. The White Sox have gotten very little production from the catcher position all year, so Teel’s return could provide a much-needed boost to their lineup.
I’d expect Teel to spend a week or so with the Knights, and assuming all goes well, perhaps he could join the team in Houston next week.
Davis Martin throws a bullpen
Right-hander Davis Martin, who was placed on the injured list on August 14th with a blister, threw a bullpen session over the weekend that went well. Will Venable suggested that Martin would likely make a rehab start before his return to the White Sox rotation, so that could be lined up to happen this week. Martin is eligible to come off the IL on Sunday, but it could be a few days after that considering the plan for him to start in Charlotte first.

Overall, it’s been a strong year for Martin, but he’s really struggled over the past few weeks, particularly in the first inning. Hopefully, Martin can take advantage of his break to get himself back on track, because the White Sox could really use him as a reliable starter down the stretch.
Season is over for Roch Cholowsky and Billy Carlson
The bad news of the weekend: The White Sox announced that top infield prospects Roch Cholowsky and Billy Carlson will be shut down for the remainder of the season. Cholowsky has dealt with wrist soreness over the past few weeks, and for Carlson, the issue appears to be a leg injury. With only a couple weeks remaining of the minor league season, the White Sox seem to be playing it safe with a pair of their top prospects.
Cholowsky hit one home run and posted a .659 OPS with High-A Winston-Salem in his first 36 at bats. Carlson, meanwhile, finishes his debut season with a .715 OPS, but has yet to hit his first professional home run. If Cholowsky can get healthy, the Arizona Fall League could be a possibility in October. If not, both players will look to take a step forward offensively in 2027.
