Unlike the 22 MLB teams whose season has ended, the Chicago White Sox have not yet shifted their focus to 2027… at least on the field. The White Sox are in the midst of a remarkable run that has led to a 2-0 series sweep over the Houston Astros and a trip to Cleveland in the ALDS. But with the TV broadcasts now national, CHSN and the White Sox may have begun looking toward the future in the broadcast booth.
According to Ryan Glasspiegel of Front Office Sports , White Sox play-by-play announcer John Schriffen’s contract has expired, and there have been no recent renewal talks between the two sides. In addition, CHSN CEO Mike McCarthy has “put out feelers” about replacements for Schriffen, who has been in the White Sox booth since the start of 2024. John Schriffen did not comment about his contract situation, and the White Sox statement on the matter provided very little concrete information.
“We understand that it’s the time of year when these questions come up,” a White Sox spokesperson said. “But we are focused solely on the Postseason”.
Glass Break: As the White Sox mount an improbable playoff run, PBP announcer John Schriffen's future status with the team is up in the air, @FOS has learnedhttps://t.co/fUzTunZbPE

John Schriffen's energy and passion in the booth have never been in doubt
John Schriffen has drawn mixed reviews from White Sox fans throughout his three years in the booth, with some citing his frequent failure to read the room and obvious lack of deep knowledge of the organization during the early years. But Schriffen has grown up with this White Sox core, and the excitement of the 2026 team has been supplemented nicely by his excitement in the booth. It was, perhaps, unfair to expect Schriffen to replicate or outperform Jason Benetti, one of the best announcers in the business who departed the White Sox in 2023 following disagreements with some members of the organization.
If the White Sox do elect to move on from Schriffen, they’ll look for someone who pairs well with color commentator Steve Stone, who signed a new multi-year extension with the team in 2024. FOX’s Adam Amin, who is the play-by--play announcer for the Chicago Bulls and does national baseball broadcasts with former White Sox catcher AJ Pierzynski, is a name that White Sox fans have brought up in recent months, but it’s unclear if there’s interest from either side. Connor McKnight was a candidate for the job when Schriffen was hired in 2024 and still works as a reporter on White Sox broadcasts, so he could once again be in the mix for the job. There are also dozens of potential external candidates to sift through, so the White Sox will have a tough decision if they do elect to move on from Schriffen.
As the White Sox continue to extend their season and keep their incredible run going, fans should prepare for the possibility that the broadcast booth sounds quite a bit different in 2027. With the lockout looming, it’s just another item to add to the uncertainty of next year.
