Chicago White Sox MiLB Report: Carlos Sanchez gains 2 hits

Here is a daily look at the MiLB system of the Chicago White Sox. Teams include: Charlotte Knights (Triple-A), Birmingham Barons (Double-A), Winston-Salem Dash (Advanced Single-A) and Kannapolis Intimidators (Single-A).

• Triple-A: Charlotte Knights

Monday saw the Charlotte Knights gain a 3-0 win over the visiting Durham Bulls. Shawn Haviland pitched five innings of scoreless baseball. He allowed two hits and walked one, while striking out four.

The win went to Erik Johnson, who went three innings on the mound. He also gave up just two hits and walked none. Johnson, a former White Sox, struck out three.

Eric Surkamp closed out the game for the save. In his one inning of work, he allowed just one hit and walked two. Surkamp also tallied one strikeout.

Of the nine hits the Knights offense collected, Carlos Sanchez, Trayce Thompson and Jared Mitchell each had two hits. One of the two hits from Sanchez was a double. Mitchell hit a triple, batting from the No. 9 spot in the order.

Matt Davidson was 0-for-4.

•  Double-A: Birmingham Barons

The Barons lost their game on Monday afternoon, 11-3 against Mobile. The Barons had 11 hits in the loss.

Lead-off hitter and the No. 2 prospect in the organization Tim Anderson was 3-for-5 on the day, with two RBIs.

Courtney Hawkins was 2-for-5 with one run, a home run (in the first inning) and one RBI. Also with two hits was Jason Coats, who was 2-for-4 (one double) with one run.

Birmingham’s pitching was their downfall on Monday with starter Mark Blackmar allowing five earned runs in 3.1 innings. He allowed eight hits and walked two with three strikeouts.

The bullpen of the Barons allowed a combined five earned runs among three pitchers for the remainder of the game.

• Advance Single-A: Winston-Salem Dash

The Dash went on the road Monday and gained a win at Potomac by a 4-3 score. Lead-off hitter Adam Engel went 2-for-4 with two runs and a walk. Also with two hits were Jake Peter and Omar Narvaez.

Trey Michalczewski had one hit and one RBI.

Matt Heidenreich pitched six innings of four-hit, one earned run baseball. He walked one and struck out two batters for the win.

Sean Hagan had the save in three innings of relief. He allowed one hit and one earned run in the outing. Hagan struck out two and walked none.

• Single-A: Kannapolis Intimidators

Kannapolis lost on Monday in a road game against Delmarva by a 5-3 score. The Intimidators totaled seven hits with Ethan Gross leading them at 2-for-4 with one run. One of his two hits was a double.

Chris Curley also had a double for Kannapolis.

Luis Martinez started the game for Kannapolis, allowing one earned run in four innings of work. He gave up three hits and walked four, though he did collect two strikeouts.
