The White Sox need help at catcher. One name that should be on their list is Wilson Ramos. Ramos spent the last six seasons with the Washington Nationals.

It’s no secret the Chicago White Sox need help at the catcher position. There aren’t a lot of options available but Wilson Ramos could be a guy that would greatly help this team. Ramos has done a great job calling games in Washington and his .307 with 22 home runs and 80 RBIs. That type of offensive production is great for the catcher position and would be an instant upgrade.

With the departures of both Dioner Navarro and Alex Avila, the White Sox desperately need to bring in a veteran catcher. Sure, Omar Narvaez has did a good job filling in after Navarro’s trade. But bringing in a veteran guy would definitely help this pitching staff.

The one downfall with Ramos is his injury. Ramos tore his ACL before the end of this season. The injury could keep the catcher out until mid-June according to the Washington Post.

However, there are a lot of young pitchers on this staff, so having a veteran guy behind the plate will help them. And Ramos has been great for the Nationals. There’s no reason he can’t do the same thing in Chicago.

The bonus here would be his offense. He hit for average last season and showed he had some power. That would be a great addition to an anemic offense. He may not hit a lot of home runs or drive in 100 RBIs but he did well at the plate. Any guy the Sox sign who can provide quality offense is a plus. Their offense really struggled this season, so it’s important they are doing things to upgrade it. Signing Ramos would literally kill two birds with one stone.

There will probably be competition for his services, but it’s time for this team to be aggressive in free agency. This is a pivotal year for this organization and it’s time for the front office to make some moves. Now, it’s time for Rick Hahn and Ken Williams to make the moves necessary to field a winning team.

Signing Ramos would not propel this team to number one in the Central, but it would help get them closer. There are still many areas of improvement this roster needs, but filling the void at catcher will be a huge step. After all, catcher is a very important position and the Sox could definitely use some help at the position.
