Breaking Down Dylan Axelrod
In an early audition for the 2012 rotation, Dylan Axelrod impressed in his first career Major League start on Wednesday.
Alex Avila‘s two-run shot with two outs in the ninth off of Sergio Santos ruined an impressive outing by Axelrod in which he struck out eight batters and held a hot – albeit partial – Tigers lineup in check for six innings.
I can’t give enough credit to Nathaniel over at Seedlings to Stars, who has been talking about Axelrod all season long, before the guy was even a mainstay in Triple-A.
Nathaniel goes even deeper into Axelrod’s repertoire in his latest post – mainly the righty’s downright dirty slider.
This is a fantastic read. Make sure you take the time to check it out.
Who knows what happens with the White Sox starting rotation this offseason, and Axelrod will definitely be in Glendale in February with a shot at the starting five.
