When Avisail Garcia left this Sunday’s game after being hit by a pitch on the same arm he had surgery on, there was some concern. All of those worries went out the window last night, when Avisail came back in a big way for the Charlotte Knights. The Knights faced the Gwinnett Braves yesterday at Coolray Field in Georgia, and Garcia didn’t disappoint.

The Knights won the game 10-1, while Garcia finished 3-5 with a solo home run. He was the team’s designated hitter last night and hit in the number 3 spot. It was a great sign for the young Right Fielder, as he was expected to be done for the year after shoulder surgery for a torn labrum. He also struck out twice last night, but the 3 hits are far more encouraging than the strikeouts are discouraging.
Avisail is now 8-15 (.533) on his rehab assignment with just the 1 home run and 1 RBI from last night’s game. He also has 5 strikeouts at the plate, but otherwise has looked fantastic on his road to recovery. Although our offense has been solid this year since losing Garcia in early April, it’s always encouraging to get one of your young guys back sooner than expected. The Sox are hoping for Garcia to be back some time in late August or early September to take over in right field.
Matt Lindstrom and Zach Putnam both pitched a scoreless inning each in last night’s game as well. Let’s hope all 3 rehab assignments go as smoothly as possible.
