White Sox Set For Spring Training Opener Against Los Angeles Dodgers

White Sox face Dodgers in Spring Training opener on Saturday. The South Siders will start a top prospect against a former Cy Young Award winner.

The Chicago White Sox will finally play its first game of Spring Training when they face the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday. The Sox will start its no. 5 prospect Carson Fulmer against three-time Cy Young Award winner Clayton Kershaw.

With the Sox in the midst of a rebuild, this spring Training should give fans a glimpse of the team’s future as they will see a lot of top prospects in action. This will be the second Spring Training for Fulmer with the Sox, and he will look to build on a solid finish to last season.

Despite not having a good stint with the Sox last season, Fulmer finished his 2016 campaign with three solid starts for Triple A Charlotte Knights. The Sox don’t have to rush Fulmer back to the majors this season, and he should be able to gain confidence throughout Spring Training.

Rick Renteria will get to manage his first game with the Sox as the team’s manager on Saturday. The Sox and Renteria have started their relationship together beautifully as the manager has stated the team will be committed to giving a good effort on the field.

The Sox had a solid Spring Training last year despite the sudden and controversial retirement of Adam LaRoche. In 2016, the Sox went 17-13 during Spring Training. This led to the team starting the season at 23-10, but they were unable to carry much momentum after that hot start.
