Lucas Giolito allowed two runs and struck out two in his spring training debut. The righty is the second best prospect in the White Sox farm system.

Lucas Giolito made his spring debut for the Chicago White Sox on Monday. The right hander started against the Cubs and pitched two innings, striking out two and allowing one run on three hits. The only run he allowed came off a solo home run by Addison Russell.

The White Sox acquired Giolito when they traded Adam Eaton to the Washington Nationals. With that trade the organization is hoping they have a cornerstone for their rotation moving forward. It gives them a phenomenal right hander to pair with Carlos Rodon and possibly Jose Quintana.

Speaking to Scott Merkin of MLB.com, Giolito feels he did an okay job in his debut. One thing he would like to improve on is throwing his curveball for a strike. There’s no doubt the youngster could be an important piece of the rotation in the future. If he can live up to his potential, then the White Sox have found themselves another front-line starter.

Don Cooper has done an amazing job developing young pitchers. He did it with Sale and Quintana. He continues to help Rodon develop. Hopefully he does the same with Giolito. Suddenly, losing Sale doesn’t seem like such a big deal because they have a lot of depth at pitcher.

Giolito will definitely get more opportunities to show off his skills this spring. He isn’t that far away from the majors. We could maybe even see him up there this season. The future looks very bright on the south side. And that’s not something we were able to say the last few seasons. Giolito is only one guy that should contribute to the future success of this team. There are a lot of other guys like him. And that definitely makes this coming season somewhat exciting, even if this team isn’t as competitive.
