The White Sox will have a private workout with Cuban prospect Luis Robert next week. Special assistant Marco Paddy was on hand for the 19 year old’s first showcase.

The Chicago White Sox were on hand for Luis Robert’s first showcase. According to Ben Badler of Baseball America, they are the team most likely to sign him. Specialist assistant Marco Paddy was on hand for the showcase and Robert will have a private workout with the team sometime next week. The Houston Astros will also have a private workout with him.

Robert is still waiting for Major League Baseball to clear him to sign as a free agent. The 2016-2017 signing period will end on June 15. The signing period for 2017-2018 will open on July 2. The 2017-2018 signing period will have the new hard cap bonus pool. The White Sox have yet to exceed the 2016-2017 pool, putting them in the driver’s seat.

The White Sox have been linked to him for sometime and it appears they are serious about signing him. Robert would represent another huge signing for them and definitely help their future. He has all the potential to be a future all-star. He should profile as a corner outfielder, which is definitely what this team needs.

It’s nice to see this organization being aggressive and looking at the international market. This team hit it big with Jose Abreu and it looks like they could do it again with Robert. They have a lot of talent in their farm system, but it’s mostly pitching. They don’t have many offensive weapons, aside from Yoan Moncada, so that’s an area they need to improve.

tfield has also been an area of concern. They could use help at all the spots. Robert would be a huge upgrade offensively and in the outfield. If Rick Hahn can make it happen, this will only enhance the team’s chances of being able to rebuild in a short period of time.
