White Sox fifth ranked prospect unable to help Triple-A Charlotte extend winning streak. Young pitcher suffers just second loss of 2017 campaign.

Chicago White Sox fifth ranked prospect Carson Fulmer was unable to help the Triple-A Charlotte Knights extend its winning streak to seven games on Wednesday. The 2015 first round draft pick had one of his worst outings of the season against the Durham Bulls. Durham defeated the Knights 9-2.

Fulmer pitched just 4.2 innings and allowed five walks against Durham. In his eighth start of 2017, Fulmer gave up seven earned runs. These were the most earned runs he has given up this season for Charlotte. With the loss, Fulmer’s record moves to 5-2 and his ERA climbed to 3.68. Despite the poor outing, Fulmer has been solid to start the 2017 campaign.

More from White Sox Prospects

The loss to the Bulls on Wednesday wasn’t the only bad news the Knights received. Yoan Moncada, the top prospect in the minors went on the 7-day disabled list with a sore thumb. Moncada hasn’t played since Sunday, but a MRI on his thumb came back negative according to Collen Kane of the Chicago Tribune.

With Moncada’s injury, the Sox are being cautious with its top prospect by placing him on the DL. His injury isn’t severe, which is good for the young player. The Knights will be without a key player in its offense, but they are better suited to having a healthy Moncada in the lineup.

Birmingham was lead by Hunter Jones who went 2-for-2 with a grand slam after pinch hitting in the seventh inning. The Winston-Salem Dash of Class A Advanced were defeated by the Lynchburg Hillcats 9-5.
