Jose Abreu is off to a great start offensively. The White Sox slugger has hit five home runs in his last 10 games.

Jose Abreu is starting to heat up and that could only mean good things for the Chicago White Sox. Abreu hit his 10th home run of the season on Wednesday and now has 27 RBI’s. He has also hit five home runs and driven in 10 RBI’s in his last 10 games.

The slugger had a rough start to the season but has since played well. Offensively he looks like the guy from a his rookie season in 2014. He’s batting .291 and slugging .500. Last season he hit .293 but slugged .468. He’s currently on pace to hit 36 home runs and drive in 97 RBI’s.

The White Sox were in desperate need of offense. They have gotten contributions from Avisail Garcia and Matt Davidson. But in order for this team to really hit the next level, key guys like Abreu need to hit the ball. And so far he’s done that. Now the White Sox need him to continue that trend, so they can continue winning games.

It’s true, this team will probably not compete this season. They had a relatively strong start but have been inconsistent as of late. Abreu’s bat is definitely not a reason for the struggles. But it will be important for the organization moving forward, that he is the guy they signed four years ago. If that happens, Abreu is another guy they could trade for assets. That may not be in the plans now but it’s definitely something Rick Hahn should have in the back of his mind.
