White Sox MiLB Report: Yoan Moncada Rebounding from Injury

White Sox top prospect has a hit in three consecutive games after going hitless in five of seven contests. Kannapolis Intimidators win first half division.

Chicago White Sox top prospect Yoan Moncada was placed on the 7-Day Disabled List on May 18 with a sore left thumb Upon his return on May 26 for Triple-A Charlotte, the switch-hitting second baseman failed to record hits in consecutive games until June 18.

The top prospect in MLB according to MLBPipeline.com saw his batting average decrease from .324 to .271 on June 16. During that same span, Mondaca recorded 28 strikeouts at the plate. It appeared the 22-year-old was still feeling the effects of his thumb injury. However, he would break out of his slump with a four hit performance on June 16 for the Knights.

Moncada went 4-for-4 against the Indianapolis Indians with a home run, two walks and four RBIs on June 16. He followed that up with a 1-for-5 performance on June 17. On Sunday, Moncada recorded two hits, one RBI and walked once for Charlotte. Despite his effort on Sunday, the Knights would lose to the Indians 12-11. With his modest three game hitting streak, Moncada has raised his batting average to .287.

Although the Knights lost on Sunday, Double-A Birmingham and Single-A Kannapolis won their respective contests. The Barons broke a three-game losing streak with a 7-2 victory over the Jackson Generals. The Kannapolis Intimidators clinched the South Atlantic First Half Northern Division championship with a 5-3 win over the West Virgina Power.

With a 39-29 record, the Initimidators clinched their first playoff berth since 2009. Kannapolis has been solid throughout the first half of its season thanks to Alec Hansen‘s 7-3 record and 2.48 ERA. Micker Adolfo has been stellar for the Intimidators offense as he is sporting a .287/.346/.493 line through 57 games played.

Single-A Advanced Winston Salem lost their contest on Sunday in 10 innings to the Buies Creek Astros 5-4. Zack Collins and Luis Alexander Basabe were both hitless for the Dash. Winston-Salem is 22 games under .500 with a 24-46 record this season.
