White Sox MiLB Report: Carson Fulmer Doesn’t Rebound from Poor Start

CHICAGO, IL - AUGUST 07: Carson Fulmer
CHICAGO, IL - AUGUST 07: Carson Fulmer

White Sox pitching prospect unable to escape fourth inning for Triple-A Charlotte. Alec Hansen has impressive debut for Winston-Salem.

Chicago White Sox sixth ranked prospect Carson Fulmer had a poor outing on June 21 for Triple-A Charlotte. In that start, Fulmer lasted just 4.1 innings while giving up six earned runs. However on Monday night against the Columbus Clippers, Fulmer was unable to rebound from his previous poor start.

Fulmer who was pitching against the Durham Bulls had a poor fourth inning as he gave up four earned runs. The 2015 first round pick has been struggling lately for the Knights as he’s seen his ERA climb to 5.47 since May 17. Before his start on May 17, Fulmer’s ERA was 2.72 however he had a poor start against the Bulls.

More from White Sox Prospects

In his start on May 17, Fulmer pitched 4.2 innings while giving up seven earned runs on six hits. Since that start, Fulmer has pitched more than five innings just once in seven starts for the Knights. In his start on Monday, Fulmer pitched four innings while allowing seven earned runs on six hits. He also allowed three walks and recorded three strikeouts. With the White Sox lack of depth in the starting rotation, Fulmer is missing out on an opportunity to prove his worth as a MLB starting pitcher.

Fulmer struggled in his brief time with the White Sox last season, and if his struggles continue with Charlotte this season, he might have a hard time getting promoted. Fulmer is helped currently by the Sox not wanting to rush any of their prospects, but he still needs to develop in the minors. With his recent struggles, Fulmer still has time to turn his season around.

Although Fulmer didn’t have a strong start on Monday, the Sox 10th ranked prospect Alec Hansen had an impressive debut for Single-A Advanced Winston-Salem. Hansen pitched five shutout innings for the Dash while recording five strikeouts and allowing four hits. The 2016 second round draft pick was promoted to the Dash last Thursday after an impressive start with Single-A Kannapolis Intimidators this season.
