The White Sox will place Avisail Garcia on the DL with a strained thumb ligament. Scott Merkin tweets he will miss two weeks.

The Chicago White Sox will place Avisail Garcia on the disabled list. The right fielder has a strained thumb ligament and will miss two weeks according to Scott Merkin. Chuck Garfien tweets he will undergo an MRI but should be good to go in a couple weeks. Willy Garcia took his place in lineup and hit a home run against the Cubs on Thursday.

Garcia is in the midst of his best season in the majors. The right hander is hitting .303 with 13 home runs and 54 RBIs. This was a breakout season for him and hopefully a sign of what’s ahead. He has a lot of good baseball left ahead of him. At 26, he is still young and this doesn’t seem to be a serious injury.

His name hasn’t really come up in trade talks, but it wouldn’t be a surprise if Rick Hahn was exploring a trade for him. However, with the injury a Garcia trade doesn’t seem doable. They could look to flip him in the offseason when his value may be at its peak. That is assuming he comes back healthy and has a strong finish to the season.

It’s good to note he has also played well defensively. Last season he played good defense but it’s stood out more now because he’s an everyday player.

Rick Renteria made a great call making him the everyday right fielder before the start of this season. If he continues to play like this, he should have a future on the south side. We just hope he comes back healthy and continue with his career season.
